Aftercare

Method #1 (Transparent Film Bandage Method)

Upon completion of your new tattoo it will be covered with a clear barrier film. This is NOT a plastic food wrap. It is a breathable, water resistant barrier much like the clear plastic used over I.V.’s at the hospital. This barrier helps to reduce the invasion of environmental pathogens into the fresh tattoo at probably the most crucial point of the healing process. The barrier is to be left on the tattoo at least until the following morning but no more than 72 hours. During this time you may notice an excessive pooling of fluids under the barrier. It may look like a liquid blister in the barrier itself. This fluid is normal to the healing process. The only reason to take the barrier film off before 72 hours is in the event that the fluid leaks out or the edge of the barrier curls up enough to expose the tattoo. If either of these things happen; take the bandage off immediately and begin your aftercare.

When removing the barrier film from your tattoo it is best to do so in the shower, under running water. Slowly remove the bandage evenly in a downward motion with the grain of the skin while supporting the skin in the process until the barrier film is completely removed.

Method #2 (Traditional Bandage Method)

Once your tattoo is completed you may have a traditional absorbent bandage covering the area. This bandage must be left on until the following morning and then washed in the manner listed below. Do not rebandage the tattoo.

WASHING THE TATTOO

Please wash your tattoo in the shower. When washing your tattoo most gentle soaps will do. We recommend gently rubbing the soap over your tattoo using only CLEAN hands for about 15 seconds. Immediately rinse the tattoo UNDER tepid running water for 30 seconds. Washing your tattoo too aggressively can cause the healing process to start all over again. Once you have thoroughly rinsed the tattoo, you may pat it dry with a clean paper towel and let it air dry for 10 minutes. That’s it. Wash your tattoo at least once daily and keep it clean and dry until all the scabbing material has healed away.
